Feed ingredients Barley (Grain)
Barley (Grain)
Composition:
Amylose, lipid, protein, ash, and phosphore
Indication:
Barley can be added to an animal feed as an energy source, with some restrictions.
Poultry cannot digest barley's carbohydrates as easily as those of corn because of the amount of non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) in barley.
Mixtures of grains offer advantages in beef and dairy cattle feeding. This is due to their greater extent and rate of rumen starch fermentation
Barley fed at less than 4 pounds per head per day in a forage- or silage-based diet for wintering or growing cattle or for beef cows can be processed to a smaller particle size because the increased fermentation rate is offset by the high proportion of forage in the diet.
